Sponge Man

It’s Christmas season, it’s shopping season! We all burst out in the streets to get presents for our loved ones or to look for the best adornments to decorate our homes.

As budgets keep stretching, people are pushed to look for good offers. “Less for more” philosophy encourages spending on bargain deals, which at the same time is perceived as a reward. Everything can be found for one pound. From decoration and toys to clothes and cosmetics, or even food.

In the last two years I’ve been collecting items sold in One-Pound Shops across London. Looking at them independently of their real use, those objects offer themselves for playful compositions.

Lending from an array of bizarre unclassified objects of questionable quality, I send you this Sponge-man – the urban contemporary version of a Snowman.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
