Scrap Club

One picture per month, 17 January 2011

Scrap Club is an event that invites an audience to participate in the destruction of household objects such as TV’s, washing machines, cookers, computers, musical instruments and office furniture within an arena. All the objects are either sourced from the streets, donated to the organizers or are the participants’ personal belongings. The destroyed objects are later offered for recycling. The organizers – artists Wajid Yaseen and Joel Cahen, provide safety equipment, sledgehammers and crowbars. The aesthetics of Scrap Club are inspired by the destuctivist artwork of Gustav Metzger and Rafael Ortiz of the 1960’s, allowing however the audience to participate. The aggression at Scrap Club is not infused with negativity and violence; it’s collective experience eliminates any possible ugly individual behavior. It’s healing and the relief makes people happy.

One picture per month is a monthly mini newsletter by photographer Yiannis Katsaris. We are not a big company so don't expect endless news emails. The newsletter will feature one of Yiannis' recent pictures or one from his archive. If Yiannis is lucky enough to have his pictures exhibited, published or something worth mentioning you will receive these updates too. This communication platform aims to be a gift in your inbox rather than a traditional newsletter.
