Magic hour

One picture per month, 7 June 2012

Usually photographs that are not associated with a certain commission or a project tend to disappear inside my hard drives. Every time I want to send this newsletter I take great pleasure looking back. It’s a good way to refresh my memory. This picture was taken in the summer of 2009, during the ‘magic hour’ light in Istanbul on a small street leading to Istiklal Avenue, one of the most famous streets in the Turkish city.

This is a photograph I particularly like because it brings to mind more than what it depicts. To me it’s the whole notion of summer. A sequence of words comes to mind: hot, dry, hazy, lazy, colourful, erotic, friends, BBQ, lucid, sea, white, blue, hypnotic, sunny, sticky, humid, happy, fish, rags, camping, travel, sweaty, salty, bikinis, sand, fun, free, breeze and exciting.

I am very proud to announce that I now have a new website that was designed by A special thank you to Joseph Kohlmaier, the mastermind behind the exquisite design.

One picture per month is a monthly mini newsletter by photographer Yiannis Katsaris. We are not a big company so don't expect endless news emails. The newsletter will feature one of Yiannis' recent pictures or one from his archive. If Yiannis is lucky enough to have his pictures exhibited, published or something worth mentioning you will receive these updates too. This communication platform aims to be a gift in your inbox rather than a traditional newsletter.
