The Idle Rich

One picture per month, 20 July 2016

Recently, I had the pleasure of working with the ever-talented Art Director and Set Designer Sandy Suffield on three different projects. For the Idle Rich we created a scenario to feature jewellery  - brooches, earrings and necklaces – as part of the living environment. It eventually evolved to the concept of “being rich without working” as the title suggests.

Being a lighting designer for the stage I am used to working with real life props or even exaggerated sets. Thinking in miniature terms and photographing model boxes is a different story. Especially when the goal is to create the illusion of a real life situation. I even had to recruit in my lighting gear a couple of little LED book clip lights.

Maria De Buenos Aires

Our next show with Operaview “Maria De Buenos Aires” will be presented at Arcola Theatre as part of Grimeborn Festival.

31, 31 August and 1,2,3 September

Maria De Buenos Aires is a unique species, the only tango opera (operita, as Piazzolla preferred, no relation to operetta as there is no comedy or lightness in that sense) ever composed with a beautiful poetry libretto by Horacio Ferrer. It involves tango, opera, dance, puppets and a narrator/actor.

This rarely performed fascinating piece, composed by the Argentinian master of tango in 1967, will involve a cast of three singers, a quintet orchestra, an actor and a dancing couple. We will be collaborating with Deco Ensemble, the most exciting tango quintet in London, under the Musical Direction of Ricardo Gosalbo. The libretto will be in Spanish and the prose for the Poet will be in English.

This communication platform aims to be a gift in your inbox rather than a traditional newsletter.
